Correct tire pressure affects fuel economy and tread life, but the bigger issue is that a slow leak or overheating wheel is nearly impossible to notice from the driver's seat until it becomes a blowout.

TireMinder and TST monitoring systems track pressure and temperature at each wheel and alert you when a reading drifts out of range. Sensors come in two styles. Cap sensors thread onto the valve stem and are simple to fit. Flow-through sensors let you add air without removing the sensor, which is worth having on inner dually positions. Kits start at four transmitters, with additional sensor packs available to cover a towed vehicle.
